A Brief History
I spent a decade of my early working life on the nightshift, with the majority of my spare time creating a range of digital/print work for friends and family.
In 2007 I created Square indie to showcase my work within the local music scene in Sheffeld, working with unsigned bands and musicians to help promote, network and raise everyones profle. I worked closely with brands in Sheffeld, promoting nights and competitions whilst engaging with locals through our own monthly ezine.
FdA Web Design
After moving to Wakefeld with my young family, I began to think about merging my passion with my career. The vehicle for this transition was FdA Web Design, a two year employment focused course I started in in 2014, with Web Design, Development, Business and Personal development focused modules in a small creative team environment.
This course helped me focus my creative thinking, developing fundamental skills on top of my self taught philosophies. The course gave me a route into the creative and digital industries, a great hunger to progress and desire to learn through collaboration and self study.
Launching A New Career
On completion of my course, my frst full time job role as a Web Developer was offered by Francis Stephenson of Buffalo Web Design in May 2016.
Work in Progress
Day to day in my role at Buffalo there is the need to be self motivated and productive. Managing time, prioritising and structuring the day is essential to successful output of projects of development tasks.
Team Ethics
I am able to bring valuable experience to teams from a range of sources from my varied history. A key skill with a focus on collaborative working, educating colleagues and clients, and also applying knowledge others have applied.
Head Full of Code
On entry to Buffalo, I had good understanding of the fundamental language skills. Applying this knowledge to real life situations was a new experience. One of my strengths now is debugging, finding faults in code and frameworks, pinpointing the source of any errors. Working closely with the Lead Developer throughout this time has led to learning strategies to monitor/maintain on both server/client level.
A Range of Solutions
Bespoke solutions using WordPress, Woocommerce, Opencart and Magento are required, with some exposure recently to the frontend of the Zend framework. The main role in projects that required it WordPress custom functionality, through custom posts and custom fields, theme development and functions/plugins where required. This is also an area where I am keen to develop my skills, maximising my knowledge of its power and extendability.
Building Relationships
My client relationship and management skills are also in high demand throughout my role. Communication throughout the progress of all projects is key to making healthy forward movement towards launch.
Ready for Launch!
Testing across a range of platforms and browsers is essential on every product launch. At this point good relationships with the marketing team and knowledge of the Google Suite can help clients maximise their new website.
